Carrick confirms he’ll retire at the end of the season
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has confirmed that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.
The midfielder was expected to retire from the game at the end of the season, but Chris Wheeler reports that the player has confirmed his decision while speaking in United’s pre-match press conference.
Jose Mourinho has previously discussed the possibility of the midfielder finishing his career at the end of the season, but the player has now confirmed it for himself.
United have been linked with several players as possible replacements for Carrick, who has found game time hard to come by this season.
Injuries and a heart scare earlier this season have limited his playing time in his final months as a Manchester United player.
It’s yet to be seen whether or not Carrick takes the step into coaching following his retirement. Mourinho has previously expressed his desire to bring the midfielder into his coaching staff when he does hang up his boots.
