# United eye Borussia Dortmund defender

Manchester United are interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer, but will face competition from Juventus.

The Greece international, who is known simply as Sokratis, has just over a year left on his contract with the Bundesliga side.

German outlet [Kicker report](https://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/720970/artikel_nicht-nur-mourinho-lockt_was-macht-sokratis.html) that, while Dortmund would like the centre-back to sign a new deal and remain at the Signal Iduna Park, the 29-year old may look to move on this summer.

Kicker also claim that José Mourinho is keen on signing the defender this summer, rather than waiting till 2019 to sign him on a free.

Manchester United are expected to move on a number of their central defensive options this summer, so could look to Sokratis as a potential replacement. Daley Blind is set to leave at the end of the season, while both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Sokratis has been with Dortmund since signing from Werder Bremen in 2013 for around €9.5million.
