## What Harry Maguire’s new deal means for United

The renewal hands Carrick welcome certainty at the back as the Red Devils prepare for a return to the Champions League. United finished third in the Premier League last season and, though it was a trophyless campaign, qualification for Europe’s top table has raised expectations at Old Trafford. Maguire remains a key figure in a centre-back group that also features Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez and Leny Yoro, and his experience and aerial presence give Carrick a dependable option as he shapes his squad.

For a defender who has weathered plenty of scrutiny during his time at the club, the new terms are a clear vote of confidence. Maguire’s willingness to commit again will be welcomed on the Stretford End, where his wholehearted displays have won back many supporters.

Attention now turns to pre-season and the friendly schedule as Carrick fine-tunes his plans, with United’s wider [summer squad planning](https://readmanutd.com/category/transfers/) continuing to take shape before the campaign kicks off. For now, though, one piece of the puzzle is settled: Harry Maguire is staying put.
