# Expert explains why Joaquin Seys could be a better fit for Manchester United

**Manchester United could have a better chance of getting Joaquin Seys than Newcastle, according to one European expert.**

The 21-year-old Club Brugge full-back has emerged as a possible option for United after their pursuit of Newcastle’s Lewis Hall stalled. Newcastle have been firm in their stance over Hall’s future, leaving United to look elsewhere for another left-back.

Seys is now one of the names being considered, although United have not yet made contact with Club Brugge.

## Manchester United is a better fit for Joaquin Seys

Newcastle are also believed to have an interest in Seys, and [European football expert Andy Brassell](https://talksport.com/football/4511794/man-united-newcastle-joaquin-seys-transfer/) initially suggested St James’ Park could be the natural destination given their need for more depth at full-back.

He pointed to the departures and fitness concerns in Newcastle’s defensive options as reasons why Seys could get plenty of football there.

“I think the obvious fit \[for Seys\] is Newcastle because they need strengthening in the full-back position, and he’d get the most game time there when you bear that in mind.

“There are a couple of things that would recommend him for Newcastle. I think you look at the fact that Trippier has gone. Livramento has his fitness issues, though there’s no doubt over their quality on both Liveramento and Hall.”

Newcastle’s decision to keep Hall, however, changes the equation.

Brassell believes Hall and Livramento could still leave at some point, but that doesn’t necessarily make Newcastle the best immediate destination for Seys.

“If you can get a good season out of Livramento where he plays 30-plus games, then you’re back in a position to sell him because everyone knows what a good player he is.”

That led Brassell towards Manchester United as the more attractive option.

## Joaquin Seys could solve United’s left-back problem

Seys has already built up considerable senior experience despite his age. He has made 73 appearances for Club Brugge and earned two Belgium caps, including involvement during the World Cup.

His versatility is another part of his appeal. Brassell believes the player has shown that he can contribute from the left and can also make an impact when introduced from the bench.

“Seys is a player who we’ve seen with Belgium can actually be impactful off the bench as well as starting now. He’s been great.”

The left side has become his main position for Brugge over the past year, making him a particularly interesting option for United.

“Over the last year or so for Club Brugge, he’s been mainly on the left-hand side, and that’s where he makes the most sense.”

Brassell ultimately believes Old Trafford could offer Seys the clearest route to regular football.

“So talking myself round, if you’re thinking where would he work if he was going to play every single week, maybe Manchester United is the better bet in that sense.”

Seys also played a major role in Brugge’s campaign last season, making 55 appearances across all competitions as they won their 20th Belgian Pro League title.

[Manchester United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/manchester-united/) would still have plenty of work to do before a deal could happen. Club Brugge don’t want to sell the youngster and have [previously been linked with a €35 million asking price](https://readmanutd.com/2026/08/15/man-utd-joaquin-seys-club-brugge-transfer/).

For now, there has been no formal approach from United. But with Lewis Hall increasingly difficult to sign, Joaquin Seys is becoming a more relevant name on the club’s left-back shortlist.

And according to Brassell, United may ultimately offer him the better opportunity.
