United needed less than two minutes to open the scoring as Maguire headed home from Bruno Fernandes’ corner.

Milan responded before the break when Chukwueze punished United after Carrick’s side lost control defensively.

Fernandes then had the chance to restore United’s advantage from the penalty spot, but [Lorenzo Torriani saved the captain’s effort](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/40070542/bruno-fernandes-penalty-miss-man-utd-ac-milan-pre-season/). It was Fernandes’ second penalty miss in successive pre-season matches.

Dorgu put United back in front after the interval, taking advantage of a Milan mistake to make it 2-1.

The lead did not last.

Cissé levelled before Ramos completed Milan’s comeback, with Loftus-Cheek adding a fourth as United’s final pre-season fixture unravelled.

Saturday’s defeat therefore leaves United with work to do before their Premier League opener.

Carrick will at least take encouragement from Dorgu’s performance and the return of several senior players, but conceding four goals after twice taking the lead was an uncomfortable way to finish the summer schedule.
