# Man Utd hold Jorge Salinas talks as £13.7m transfer develops

**Manchester United have reportedly held discussions with the representatives of Jorge Salinas as Michael Carrick’s search for a new left-back continues despite progress being made over Carlos Baleba.**

According to SullyTalkz, United have spoken to the player’s side as they assess several options for the position.

The club’s data department are also said to rate Salinas highly and view the 19-year-old as a player with significant potential.

Salinas has been on United’s radar throughout the summer and has a reported €16million (£13.7m) release clause at Racing Santander.

David Raum also remains on United’s list, although no advanced negotiations for the RB Leipzig defender have been reported.

## Jorge Salinas talks show Man Utd left-back search is moving

Contact with Salinas’ representatives represents a notable progression from United merely assessing him as an alternative.

[ReadManUtd reported earlier this month that United were prepared to consider triggering Salinas’ £13.7m clause](https://readmanutd.com/2026/08/03/man-utd-ready-to-trigger-13-7m-clause-for-spanish-wonderkid/) if their preferred left-back options proved difficult to secure.

The latest development suggests the teenager remains firmly under consideration.

United’s wider strategy also explains why.

[ReadManUtd revealed on Tuesday that left-back had become the club’s main remaining transfer priority](https://readmanutd.com/2026/08/18/man-utd-make-left-back-priority-as-new-transfer-profile-emerges/), with the recruitment department continuing to assess different profiles.

That search appears to be running independently of the club’s midfield business.

United are already [closing in on a potential £65m agreement for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba](https://readmanutd.com/2026/08/19/man-utd-closing-in-on-carlos-baleba-as-65m-package-emerges/), but that has not stopped work on another addition at left-back.

Salinas would represent a considerably different investment.

Rather than paying a premium for an established Premier League option, United could secure a highly rated young player for a relatively modest release clause and allow him to develop alongside Luke Shaw.

Raum offers greater experience and remains another option, highlighting that United have not yet settled on one definitive target. But discussions with Salinas’ camp suggest his candidacy has now moved beyond purely internal consideration.
