# CONFIRMED LINE-UP: Hull City vs Manchester United, Tielemans and Santos Debut in midfield

**Manchester United begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign away from home on Saturday, with Michael Carrick’s side facing newly promoted Hull City at the MKM Stadium.**

There is plenty of interest around United’s first starting XI of the season after Carrick guided the club to an unexpected third-place finish last term. Expectations are higher this time around, particularly with Champions League football returning to the schedule.

## CONFIRMED LINE-UP, Michael Carrick starts with Mbuemo upfront

Senne Lammens starts in goal, with Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui forming the back four. New signing Andrey Santos makes his competitive debut in midfield alongside fellow summer arrival Youri Tielemans.

Bruno Fernandes will play further forward, while Bryan Mbeumo, Cunha and Patrick Dorgu complete the forward line.

**Manchester United XI:** Lammens; Mazraoui, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Santos, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Dorgu; Cunha.

## Key Stats: Hull City vs Manchester United

United have a strong record in Premier League openers against promoted opposition. They have never lost one of their 12 such fixtures, winning nine and drawing three. Hull, meanwhile, have never beaten United in the Premier League, taking only two points from their previous 10 meetings.

Carrick will still be wary of Saturday’s away fixture. Manchester United won only seven of their 19 away league games last season, something that will need to improve if they are to challenge higher up the table this time around.

The form since Carrick took over gives United plenty of encouragement. They collected 39 Premier League points after his appointment last season, more than any other side during that period.

## Michael Carrick dismisses Hull City game as easy fixture

There are still a few fitness concerns, though. Matthijs de Ligt and Ugarte remains sidelined, while Mason Mount is a doubt.

Carrick has already [dismissed the idea that this is an easy opening fixture](https://readmanutd.com/2026/08/21/michael-carrick-manchester-united-hull-city-tough-start/).

“Well, I think first of all, for all of us who know this league, there’s no favourable start. I think it’s a tough start, both teams.”
