# Alan Shearer predicts Man Utd vs Tottenham result as Carrick faces pressure

**Alan Shearer believes Michael Carrick could face a difficult afternoon at Old Trafford if Manchester United lose to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with the pressure on the United manager growing after a disappointing start to the season.**

[Michael Carrick](https://readmanutd.com/tag/michael-carrick/) helped United secure [Champions League](https://readmanutd.com/tag/champions-league/) qualification last season and brought some stability to a club that had struggled for consistency. However, Shearer feels the club’s decision not to strengthen the squad sufficiently during the summer could now come back to haunt them.

“You can imagine the noise at Old Trafford around Carrick if United lose on Saturday,” [Shearer said, as quoted by Football 365](https://www.football365.com/news/shearer-tottenham-de-zerbi-sack-prediction-man-utd).

“He did a great job last year in terms of getting them into Champions League football, he did a great job in just calming the situation down.”

## **Shearer warns Carrick about Tottenham threat**

[Manchester United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/manchester-united/) have collected just five points from their opening five Premier League matches, leaving Carrick under pressure to turn things around. Tottenham have struggled even more badly in terms of results and remain winless heading into the trip to Manchester.

Shearer believes a defeat to a Spurs side that has yet to win a league game would make the reaction around Old Trafford particularly difficult for Carrick.

“Then they stuck with him, didn’t really back him as much as they could have and should have in the summer, and again, you just imagine the noise after three weeks, after the start to the season they’ve had, and if Spurs beat them, who haven’t won a game all season.”

The former England striker also pointed to United’s demanding schedule, with Atletico Madrid arriving on Tuesday evening. Two difficult fixtures in quick succession could have a major bearing on the mood around the club.

## **Shearer predicts a draw at Old Trafford**

Despite the pressure on both sides, Shearer expects the points to be shared rather than either team claiming a crucial victory.

“I think it’ll probably be a score draw. I think it could be 1-1 or 2-2, which I guess is a better result for the away team than it is for the home team.”

A draw might ease the immediate pressure on Carrick, but United desperately need a win to build momentum. With Tottenham also searching for their first league victory, Saturday’s game will be a massive one for both the managers.
