# Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp tear into Man Utd after Tottenham draw

**Manchester United have come under fresh criticism after their disappointing 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, with Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp questioning the team’s performance and the challenges facing Michael Carrick.**

[Manchester United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/manchester-united/) looked on course for a much-needed victory at Old Trafford after Bryan Mbeumo put them ahead in the second half. However, despite Tottenham being reduced to 10 men, Dominic Solanke’s late equaliser denied Carrick’s side all three points.

[Gary Neville](https://readmanutd.com/tag/gary-neville/) felt Tottenham deserved the points, pointing to Solanke’s late goal and his impact as Tottenham captain.

## **Gary Neville questions Man Utd’s performance**

“Tottenham deserved a point. That was a really important moment for Solanke. He’d missed some big chances and was captain for the first time,” [Neville said on Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/13592777/man-utd-1-1-tottenham-dominic-solanke-rescues-dramatic-draw-for-10-man-spurs-at-old-trafford).

“They were the better team by far. If they’d left without a point, it would have been terrible for them.”

The former United defender also expressed concern about what the result means for Carrick, who faces increasing pressure to improve performances and results.

“Michael Carrick is left with a lot to think about. It was a worrying day in terms of the level of performance and a big week ahead.”

## **Jamie Redknapp highlights United’s midfield problems**

Manchester United spent massively in the summer to overhaul their midfield. However, [Jamie Redknapp](https://readmanutd.com/tag/jamie-redknapp/) was critical of the performance he saw on the pitch.

“I do not see enough connections in that midfield, and they look devoid of any confidence, ideas, or patterns of play, playing out the back,” Redknapp said.

“Tottenham were just much better than them in every department, but that is a theme this season.”

The former Liverpool midfielder also questioned United’s energy and attacking organization, suggesting the squad is not strong enough to meet the demands placed upon it.

“Their energy levels are not good enough, and they look loose going forward; there was no real structure.”

Redknapp added that Carrick cannot fix every issue alone, insisting the manager needs backing to improve the squad.

“The squad is not good or strong enough, and Michael \[Carrick\] needs help in that respect.”
