# Will Lisandro Martinez play against Leeds after explosive rant?

**Lisandro Martinez could return to Manchester United’s starting line-up against Leeds United this weekend, with the defender reportedly available for selection after the controversy surrounding his comments about the club’s summer transfer business.**

[TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey has suggested](https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/lisandro-martinez-to-start-versus-leeds-man-utd-final-decision-disciplinary-row) Michael Carrick could bring the Argentine straight back into the team for the trip to Elland Road. The fixture is expected to be a hostile occasion, making Martinez’s potential involvement an interesting one.

“I am told that Martinez is available for selection this weekend, and there is every chance Michael Carrick starts him,” Bailey said.

The defender recently found himself in trouble after questioning whether [Manchester United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/manchester-united/) had done enough in the summer transfer window. [He apologised to the club’s hierarchy and was fined](https://readmanutd.com/2026/10/16/lisandro-martinez-contract-man-utd-apology/), but the incident has not apparently created a divide between him and the manager.

## **Lisandro Martinez and Man Utd squad remain behind Carrick**

Bailey also dismissed suggestions that Martinez’s comments were an attack on [Michael Carrick](https://readmanutd.com/tag/michael-carrick/), insisting the defender and his teammates continue to support the head coach.

“Martinez was not critical of Carrick – far from it. This isn’t a repeat of something like Mo Salah criticising Arne Slot last season. It is almost the opposite.”

According to Bailey, the United dressing room remains firmly behind Carrick despite the team’s disappointing start to the campaign. Senior players reportedly believe the current manager is still the right person to lead the team, rather than bringing in another face to replace him.

“Martinez and the squad are 100% behind Carrick. They know there is pressure after a poor start to the season, but they do not want to see a change.”

Bailey went on to suggest that the fallout may have strengthened the bond between the players and their manager.

“Martinez and the senior players firmly believe nobody can come in and do a better job than Carrick. If anything, this has brought the group closer together.”
