# Jamie Carragher names Man Utd Star who impressed him against Leeds

**Manchester United had a difficult evening once again as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Leeds United. Pressure mounts on Michael Carrick as United have just 7 points from** 7 games.

[Manchester United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/manchester-united/) took the lead through [Bryan Mbeumo](https://readmanutd.com/tag/bryan-mbeumo/) in the first half, with the forward finishing Youri Tielemans’ excellent cross from the right. However, the visitors couldn’t hold on to their advantage as Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for [Leeds United](https://readmanutd.com/tag/leeds-united/) from a corner.

The draw extended United’s frustrating run of results, leaving Michael Carrick still searching for the consistency his side need.

Carragher, though, believes there were positives to take from the trip, particularly one performance at the back.

[Jamie Carragher](https://readmanutd.com/tag/jamie-carragher/) has singled out Harry Maguire for praise after Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.

## **Carragher praises Maguire after Leeds draw**

[Speaking on Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football), the former Liverpool defender admitted that picking up a point at Elland Road was not necessarily a bad result in isolation, even if United’s recent form made it feel like a missed opportunity.

“Going away to Leeds is going to be tricky for any team except for Manchester City and Arsenal at the moment,” Carragher said.

“A lot of teams will take a point at Leeds this season but the problem for Manchester United is the results have been so poor that they need to start winning games so it almost feels like two points dropped.”

Carragher then turned his attention to Maguire, who he felt played a major role in keeping United in the game when Leeds began to push for a winner.

“But in isolation, getting a point at Leeds is a decent result. I thought Harry Maguire was fantastic, especially in the second half.”

## Harry **Maguire helps United avoid another setback**

Leeds United grew into the contest after Calvert-Lewin brought them level, putting United under pressure during the closing stages. Carragher felt Maguire’s efforts in defence helped prevent the visitors from falling apart.

“After Leeds got that goal back there was a stage of the game where it felt like Man United could go under, but Maguire at the back held it together for them. He was fantastic.”

The result may feel like another opportunity missed for Carrick, but Maguire’s performance gave United something positive to take away from Elland Road.
