Jorge Mendes breaks ice over David De Gea

Jorge Mendes breaks ice over David De Gea

Finally it’s happening. United fans all over the world breathed a sigh of relief, as Super Agent Jorge Mendes said on the Spanish Radio Cadena Ser, that he is indeed in talks with United, for extending De Gea’s contract, that runs up to June 2016.

Mendes said “I am negotiating with Manchester United about De Gea’s renewal,It is not true that De Gea has found a deal with Real Madrid. I’m negotiating with Manchester United his extension”

Last week Mendes had admitted that De Gea is happy in Manchester. In an interview with BBC  he said,  “David has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester, the player will decide, but he’s happy there, at the moment.”

De Gea’s future has been under intense speculation ever since United signed Victor Valdes on a 18 month deal and the continuous reports from the Spanish press tipping him to be Iker Casillas’ successor in both the Spain national team and in Real Madrid. With less than 18 months left on his contract, there is genuine concern among Manchester United faithful that their mighty Spanish Goalkeeper, who has been nothing sort of sensational, might leave the club.

The Spaniard, a £17.8million signing from Atletico Madrid has gone on to become perhaps their most influential player in last 2 years. He was again at his best as he won his personal duel against Enner Valencia and made a series of fantastic stops in a 1-1 draw against West Ham.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal last week expressed his desire to keep him while also mentioning ‘Everything is possible’ when asked about reports linking him to Real Madrid.
