Former treble winner and forward, Teddy Sheringham has urged Manchester United to move quickly for Brighton forward Charalampos Kostoulas after a big start to the 2026/27 season.
The 19-year-old Greek international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young forwards. Kostoulas scored twice in Brighton’s 3-0 win over Arsenal, producing the kind of performance that has already caught the attention of former players and pundits.
Teddy Sheringham was particularly impressed by the Greece international and believes Manchester United should be looking seriously at bringing him to Old Trafford.
“I was impressed by Yasin Ayari. I mean, to get a result against Arsenal you have to be on top of your game, and everyone in that Brighton team was on the top of their game that day, but for me it was all about the centre-forward, Charalampos Kostoulas. Wow. What a player, and the goals he’s scoring too!” Sheringham said, as quoted by Football 365.
Sheringham Sees £100m Potential in Kostoulas
The former United striker believes Kostoulas has already shown qualities that could eventually make him one of Brighton’s biggest-ever sales.
“I look at Charalampos Kostoulas, and I see a striker who is a proper leader of the line. He will be the next £100 million-plus player at Brighton who moves on somewhere else,” Sheringham said.
The Greek forward’s game is far more than finishing. Sheringham was quick to highlight Kostoulas’ ability to handle physical battles, bring teammates into play and compete in the air, while also pointing to his confidence when facing top opposition.
“He doesn’t give a monkeys who he’s playing against or what else is happening on the pitch. He takes the game to the opposition either way, controls the ball, leads the line, scores goals, wins headers, brings players into play.”
That combination is what has convinced Sheringham that Kostoulas could become a major star.
Should Manchester United Sign Kostoulas?
Sheringham did not hesitate when asked whether his former club should make their move.
“Should Michael Carrick and Manchester United be getting on the phone to Brighton? Without a doubt.”
The 1999 treble winner believes that waiting on making an advance for the forward could make the deal harder, particularly if Kostoulas continues developing at his current pace.
“They have to get in before someone else does because he looks every bit a leader on the pitch, and he plays some beautiful stuff.”
Kostoulas was also on the scoresheet when Brighton knocked United off the Carabao Cup, coming from behind to win 2-3. He started Brighton’s comeback and came out the winner. What happens with his development and whether he becomes a £100m player is yet to be seen, but Sheringham wants United to make the move.
