Louis van Gaal was left forever indebted the home sides ‘keeper once more with a last gasp win at St James’ park, he shares his thoughts on the matter:
“I think we have dominated for 90 minutes, maybe our best match of the season, especially in an away match we deserved the victory.”
Thankfully van Gaal didn’t adopt an arrogant manner and was able to accept a poor 45 minutes and recognise the harsh reality of the league. “We didn’t reward ourselves in the first half. It was a narrow escape because our rivals have won also so it’s a rat race.” Well I’m sure all Red Devil’s can agree it’s a ‘rat race’ where City are concerned.
However, more on our squad, the boss highlighted also our shot-stoppers strong running for man of the match, stating “we have created a lot of chances and could have scored much earlier. They also made two big chances and I think David de Gea rescued us at that time.”
To conclude, he then picked out another key individual now back where he belongs in the forefront of the attack and reinforcing the a rather ‘Krul’ mistake that allowed United to gain on top-half table opponents.
“It was a crazy run from Wayne Rooney, a lost ball, that shows the fighting spirit in this team. We want to win. All my changes were to win, not to hold the result.”
Ashley Young also spoke to the press tonight following his match-winner, he too was heaping praise onto our captain. “We heard of results, others winning around us so it was vitally important to get a win here. It was great work by Wazza (Wayne Rooney), the ball fell to my feet and I put it away.”
