Wayne Rooney determined to lift the FA Cup

Two of Manchester United’s playmakers in the final third are in the right mentalities with personal motives ahead of the FA Cup clash with Arsenal, Wayne Rooney’s dry spell when it comes to silverware has only fuelled his intentions to progress in the cup. This won’t mean however that Arsenal will roll over to atone for the strikers self-pity and will hope for some glory outside of the league as Chelsea look to seal the top spot ahead of their top-flight rivals. The Red Devil’s number 10 branded the fixture ‘massive’ and expressed the clubs desire to hoist the cup at Wembley has they haven’t done so ‘for a few years.’ In fact, it was 2004 that the Reds last emerged victorious above all others in this competition whereas Arsenal…

The captain went on to share personal experiences, ‘It is a trophy that, growing up as a youngster, I used to love watching and I was fortunate enough to see Everton lift the FA Cup in 1995 when I was nine years old. It is something I would love to do and hopefully it can be this year.’ Let’s hope he’s not imagining himself bearing a blue shirt if he does get the opportunity to do so!

Midfield magician Herrera, on the other hand, wants only to fill up the trophy cabinet with his current club and has pledged himself to a cause he ‘will not stop’ for. The plaudits heaped on the 25-year-old particularly from the United faithful – evident as he received the fans’ Play of the Month last month – has resulted in Herrera being overwhelmed by the encouragement.  In February, Louis van Gaal’s men reaped the full rewards from four games largely due to the roll played by Spaniard. He revealed in an interview that ‘this means a lot for me because the votes came from our fans and I’m very happy and grateful to them.’

The latter still remains unsatisfied as his team were held against Swansea and must continue winning runs as they are currently situated in one of the top four spots on which multiple managers have their admiring attentions set. The man who claimed 76 per cent of votes in his February award reiterated ‘we want to be there until the end of the season.’ Driven by his ‘affection,’ Manchester United’s number 21 is healthily pushing the rest of his teammates for fine form as well as himself as he remains ‘happy’ with his progress. He perhaps owes this to the rest of the squad as he divulged about them, ‘They have always shown me affection from the first day and I am very grateful.’ Herrera’s hopes to match this are admirable and we can all take heart in how ‘lucky’ he feels to represent the red half of Manchester.
