Manchester United 1-2 Arsenal: Four things we learned

Manchester United 1-2 Arsenal: Four things we learned

1. Manchester United need a right back that can impress

Valencia was horrendous to say the least tonight, against arsenal. Even without factoring in that inexcusable back pass to De Gea, he was unable to stay focused on Alexis Sanchez, who left with any room, can be devastating. Valencia would find himself drifting towards to the middle of the pitch, leaving space for Sanchez to run behind the line of defence. With Rafael unable to impress Van Gaal, there seems to be no other natural right-sided player to take his spot. It might be time for Paddy Mcnair to get a call back?

2. De Gea could be a world class midfielder

Under pressure quite a few times throughout the match, by back passes from Valencia in the first half, De Gea showed why he is a world class player, with his composure and assured touch was able to guide the ball out of pressure to the feet of Daley Blind. He didn’t only impress with his kicking skills, but his saves kept Manchester United in the game right till the death.

3. Angel Di Maria is definitely on his way back to his amazing form

Despite his sending off in the second half, due to his reaction to the referee which was a warranted one, as he was clipped on his way down, Angel was causing a lot of trouble for Arsenals backline, with his runs and the amazing crosses he whipped in, one of which led to Wayne Rooney finding the back of the net. Many people were doubting his ability, but to come up with such plays on the big stage against a big club, shows he doesn’t lack in class and ability.

4. The month ahead, could well go either way for Manchester United, but at the moment it’s not looking too good

All in all, Arsenal didn’t play very well and despite this, Manchester United were still unable to capitalise. With teams like Chelsea and Manchester City ahead, United to pull their socks up and really dig deep to be able to keep their heads held high at the end of the month. However with players like Di Maria and Carrick playing well all that is needed is a bit more composure in attack and anything is possible.
