Are Louis van Gaal’s men set for top four?

Manchester United go into the international break on the back of two excellent victories; against top 4 rivals, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. The mood around the club should be one of belief and the willingness to push on and get the vital victories to cement a top 4 finish.

In recent weeks, fans have been treated to some great football and brilliant goals, topped off by a majestic Juan Mata scissor kick against Liverpool. In my opinion, the rejuvenation comes from the injury to Robin Van Persie and the knock on effects that has had on team selection. Wayne Rooney has been moved into his preferred position and has reaped the benefits of having proven central midfielders behind him, in Mata and Herrera.

Not to mention the impact that Michael Carrick has had, after his lay off due to injury. Another change to mention is Daley Blind and his switch to left back, Blind has played this position comfortably for Holland and Ajax. It allows him, in games that we attack more, to get on the ball and use his passing ability to box teams in. Blind is also an excellent crosser of the ball, something we could use more of.

I feel, as a United fan, that if we play the way we have been recently then results against Chelsea and Manchester City are, not only obtainable, but logical. United, as we are all aware, lacked bottle and a winning mentality last season which saw an unprecedented, but deserved drop to 7th position and that was not good enough. We need to rally as fans behind the team each and every week until May, and push the players to achieve what they are capable of because the fate of this season is firmly in the hands of the players.
