Juan Mata has crowned a remarkable month by claiming Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for March.
The 26-year-old became the hero at Anfield with a spectacular acrobatic volley, as his brace secured a colossal victory against top-four rivals Liverpool. And his man of the match display followed another imposing performance against Tottenham Hotspur, as the Reds triumphed to a 3-0 victory before leaving the field to a standing ovation.
Mata was named as the club’s Player of the Month by claiming 51% of the votes, with Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney in second and third place respectively with 33% and 16% of the votes. The month saw the Red Devils win all three league matches, while making substantial gains in their push for European qualification.
The Spaniard has featured 27 times this season for Louis van Gaal’s side, which has included 19 starts in the Premier League. Mata also came off the bench in United’s first fixture of the month, as Ashley Young struck an 89th minute winner at Newcastle United.
However, he has failed to feature for the national side since a 3-0 victory over Australia during the 2014 World Cup group stage.
Mata made the £37.1 million switch from Chelsea in January 2014, signing a contract with the club until the summer of 2018.
