Manchester United v Aston Villa: Last five meetings

Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester United (20/12/14) – The Reds visited Villa Park earlier in the season and were frustrated once again on the road. The home side took the lead through a superb Christian Benteke curler, only for Radamel Falcao to equalize in the second half with his second goal for the club. Gabby Agbonlahor was controversially sent off but United couldn’t make the advantage count and left with a point.

Manchester United 4-1 Aston Villa (29/03/14) – A game which was overshadowed by the infamous ‘Wrong One – Moyes Out’ banner, seemed a routine win when looking at the score line, but struggling Villa took a shock lead through Ashley Westwood’s free kick. Wayne Rooney replied with two before half time, and in the second half United made it comfortable with Juan Mata scoring his first in a red shirt and Javier Hernandez grabbing one at the death.

Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester United (15/12/13) – Another late December away game in Birmingham, but this time an easier result. The reds cruised into a two goal lead with Danny Welbeck getting both. Tom Cleverley, now on loan at Villa, sealed it after the break. The returning Darren Fletcher made the headlines however, with him coming on after over a year out through illness.

Manchester United 3-0 Aston Villa (22/04/13) – The game that will stick out most between the sides in recent years was the night United sealed their 20th title in-front of a packed Old Trafford. Robin Van Perise, the man of the season, fittingly scored the goal of the season, an unbelievable volley from a beautiful Wayne Rooney pass. That was the second of his three goals in the first half as United blew away the team from the midlands to be crowned champions.

Aston Villa 2-3 Manchester United (10/11/12) – United came from 2 goals down to seal an amazing comeback. Andreas Weimann scored a bullet before halftime and added another just after the interval. Ferguson brought on Javier Hernandez, and the little Mexican made the difference with a hat-trick to turn it all around, again showing he still had a team with the same winning mentality even in his final season in charge.
