Diego Maradona has claimed Manager United manager Louis van Gaal is like “the devil” following his treatment of on-loan forward Radamel Falcao.
The 29-year-old has spent the last six matches on the bench for the Red Devils, and only made an appearance for the final seven minutes in the 4-2 victory over rivals Manchester City.
Having spent the season at Old Trafford from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, the Colombian has a clause in his contract which allows the Dutchman to purchase Falcao to his squad on a permanent basis for a fee of £43 million in the upcoming window.
However, spending £6 million as part of the season-long loan, Falcao has netted on just four appearances this campaign. Facing a wealth of stick and criticism for his lack of goalscoring opportunities, having recently spent a year on the sidelines with multiple injuries, Argentinian World Cup winner has insisted he is not to fault for his lacklustre spell.
Instead, the 54-year-old former international and manager believes van Gaal is to blame, branded him “like the devil” for his treatment of Falcao.
Speaking while promoting a charity match in Bogota, Colombia, Maradona commented: “Van Gaal is not a nice guy. Van Gaal is closer to the devil than anything.”
Maradona firmly believes the knee injury previously picked up has seriously hindered his ability to adapt to English conditions and the style of play, with the former Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid frontman missing the World Cup last year.
“His time was cut short after the injury and he has to adapt to the move,” Maradona added.
His last start came in a 1-1 draw with West Ham United on February 8.
