Under-14’s celebrate Copa Sa Pobla success

The future looks bright for Manchester United for many years to come, with the Under-14’s celebrating a number of triumphs at the recent Copa Sa Pobla tournament in Mallorca.

The youthful Red Devils joined a number of teams for the annual tournament, including Atletico Madrid, Valencia, RCD Mallorca and Malaga. Entering the one team into the competition, the Under-14’s were hoping to represent both club and country on the international stage.

And the Reds certainly didn’t let themselves down, clinching the cup for their age group in Spain after some impressive results. Commencing the competition for their age group, United kicked off proceedings with an 9-0 victory over Athletic Marratxi.

Just two hours later, a 1-0 win was also recorded against UD Arenal, of the Balearic Islands. A fixture with UD Poblense saw the two teams end goalless, before United secured victory in a 3-2 penalty shootout. Two 3-0 victories followed against UD Alboraya and Selection Camp Turia, before sealing top spot in their group with another goalless draw.

A single goal was enough to see the Under-14’s progress through the quarter-finals, before opting to net five goals in the semi-finals. Strikes from Jayden Reid, Mark Helm, Ethan Laird and captain Mason Greenwood set up the final, which was won courtesy of another strike from Greenwood.

After lifting the trophy, Greenwood was named as Player of the Tournament and top goalscorers, with ten goals across nine games. And to conclude the club’s accomplishments, Hasney Aljofree was named as Coach of the Tournament.

Despite their nine clean sheets, Jacob Carney and Jordan Eastham were pipped to the Golden Glove award by Coll CD CIDE’S Catalina Thomas, who prevented a clean sweep for the English outfit.
