Yet to feature between the sticks for Manchester United, Victor Valdes has found chances hard to come by at the club due to David De Gea’s outstanding form. It may not be good news for Reds faithful that the latter shot-stopper is stalling contract talks, but it is perhaps the only way our former Barcelona keeper will get a look in.
I don’t doubt his quality, but Louis van Gaal’s number 1 is similar to his 31 – unplayable! You could suggest the January signing was brought on board merely as an insurance policy, should the likes of Real Madrid tempt the Premier League outfit with the right sum. With Sam Johnstone currently enthralled in a Preston North End promotion push down in League One, Ben Amos at the time departing for a loan move to Bolton, and Anders Lindegaard perhaps not to be the ideal replacement for the remainder of the campaign, the gaffer evidently went in search of a budget goalie.
At a free transfer, Valdes was too good to refuse. A reserve squad debut looks to be the best he will be getting at present though which is somewhat a shame as he would no doubt be a regular in another top tier team. The man in question will have most likely come into the side aware of the mountainous task of dislodging the Red Devil’s mainstay. Although if he was willing to face this challenge, perhaps Valdes believed himself worthy to do so and we can expect greater things from hi when the time comes for him to fill the gloves.
