Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp rejected the opportunity to manage Manchester United last summer, according to reports.
The German supposedly promised the Bundesliga outfit he would stay for another season, but has struggled considerably while battling with relegation throughout the 2014/15 campaign.
David Moyes’ successor was also reportedly identified hastily by Manchester United, as the imminent arrival of Louis van Gaal was confirmed just days after Ryan Giggs saw out the season at the helm of the Red Devils.
However, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the ‘football hipster’ turned down a €12 million contract offer from the Premier League side.
Klopp has since announced he will leaving Dortmund come the end of the season, following a recent press conference, and regardless of suggestions of a sabbatical, Klopp is expected to return to management immediately.
Manchester City and Bayern Munchen have been suggested as two possible clubs for the 47-year-old, but Di Marzio has mentioned that England is a ‘dream destination’ for Klopp. With van Gaal pleasing supporters with their recent run of form and late title surge, it seems only a few would be interested in welcoming the former FSV Mainz 05 boss.
The 2011 and 2012 German Football Manager of the Year winner has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
