Ilkay Gundogan a ‘done deal’ according to reports

Manchester United are set to complete a deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in the coming days, reports Sky Sports.

The German midfielder has been regularly linked to the Red Devils over the last few seasons, and with Jurgen Klopp recently announcing his departure at the end of the season, all eyes immediately turned to the futures of some of the club’s bigger stars.

A lacklustre season for Borussia Dortmund has seen them crash out of Europe while often fighting relegation in the Bundesliga, and Gundogan looks set to have secured his future at the Theatre of Dreams.

German outlet Der Westen recently reported Gundogan’s move to Manchester United was imminent, and the German Sky Sports have now suggested he will be signing a contract over the weekend.

The reported deal now leaves question marks over the future of Mats Hummels, who has also been linked to a switch to Old Trafford frequently, and could now join Gundogan in Manchester.

Should a deal be completed, the 24-year-old would be the first ever German player to represent United. Ron-Robert Zieler previously enjoyed a spell in the youth ranks while under contract, but failed to make a first-team appearance.

Ilkay Gundogan has featured for Borussia Dortmund 27 times in all competitions this season.
