Andrew Cole expects Radamel Falcao to improve

Manchester United legend Andrew Cole expects Radamel Falcao to impress while returning to prolific form next season, whether appearing at Old Trafford or elsewhere.

The 29-year-old joined the Red Devils on a season-long loan, costing just £6 million, and supporters believed that had pulled off a monumental transfer coup with the deal. However, the Colombian has somewhat struggled in the United set-up, and many believe Louis van Gaal has been unfair on the forward.

Falcao now has a clause in his deal meaning the Red can guarantee a transfer for £43.2 million, but it is expected he could head to the Theatre of Dreams on a permanent basis for cheaper after his lacklustre season.

Currently Colombia’s all-time top scorer, Falcao netted 70 goals during two seasons with Atletico Madrid, after an impressive spell at Porto, but after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury, he has now scored just four times in 28 appearances for United.

However, former Manchester United striker believes he should return to form after shaking off his injuries, and that is best years are yet to be behind him.

“I look at Falcao and I still think he is a quality player,” Cole said while promoting the legends match taking place next month. “If you look at his movement and what he has done for his national team, you know he scores goals. His record before coming here was phenomenal, absolutely ridiculous. I know he has had an indifferent time since coming to Manchester United and everyone is saying he can’t score goals any more, but no – it isn’t like that.

“He has not got as many as he would have liked when he came to Manchester United. But that doesn’t mean he is a bad player. He is far from a bad player. I don’t know whether United will keep him. The powers that be are considering it. If he doesn’t stay here next year and he goes somewhere else, he will score goals. You don’t stop scoring goals because you have an injury or whatever.

“It might take a little bit longer to recover from the injury but once you get injured it doesn’t mean you stop. He will score goals wherever. If he doesn’t stay here he will definitely do that.”

AS Monaco have previously suggested Radamel Falcao will only be allowed to join Manchester United during the summer if he is to depart the Ligue 1 club, but whether van Gaal is interested in a deal is currently unknown.
