Serie A’s breakthrough star linked to Old Trafford

Manchester United could win the race to sign Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson for a staggering £36.3 million, according to reports in Italy.

The 22-year-old has become of Serie A’s hottest talents in his breakthrough season, and could have subsequently earned himself a move to the Premier League. 10 goals and seven assists have seen Anderson send his side on the brink of Champions League qualification – something now offered by Louis van Gaal’s side once again.

Despite reports linking the Brazilian to the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, the Red Devils have struck pole position with a mega money move, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, the potential arrival of Anderson could pave a way out for Angel Di Maria – who is expected to be a prime target for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer, after just one season at the Theatre of Dreams.

The reports follow just hours after Ed Woodward and van Gaal completed their first signing of the summer, despite the transfer window not opening until June 9. The club previously announced PSV winger Memphis Depay had agreed terms and would join subject to a medical, which was completed today.

Felipe Anderson has made 30 appearances in Italy’s top tier this season, 21 of which were starts.
