Manchester United target Alexandre Lacazette is refusing to commit his future to Lyon under the terms of his current contract, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The-23-year-old Lyon forward was previously reported to be dissatisfied with his contract, in comparison to the wages of his teammates, and could now be heading for the exit door from the Ligue 1 outfit, with Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers both potential candidates for his signature.
Having scored 29 goals in 35 appearances this season, Lacazette has become one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, despite his tender age. Having made his debut for Lyon back in 2010, the clinical finisher could depart from France for as little as £20 million.
When asked about his future at the club last weekend, he responded: “I do not know. We will see later in the season,” suggesting he does not want to commit to a deal on current teams. His current club may need to make hefty improvements, with the potential wages the Red Devils could offer.
United are now able to offer the forward Champions League football – something they couldn’t in the previous transfer window – and are expected to sign a new forward with Radamel Falcao’s loan coming to a conclusion, and Robin van Persie linked to a move to Italy.
According to le10sport, the French international will now seek a move abroad, but the Reds will have to fight with Liverpool, who emerged as suitors last month. With Mario Balotelli potentially joining van Persie in Serie A, Lacazette could also head to Anfield in the summer.
Alexandre Lacazette previously scored the winning goal in the final of the 2010 European Under-19 Champions, beating Spain to clinch victory.
