Twitter reacts to Jonny Evans transfer speculation

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans could leave the club this summer, and numerous reports have suggested the Northern Irish international could have played his final game for the Red Devils.

Early reports from the Telegraph suggested officials at the club would not offer the 27-year-old an extension to his contract, having made just 17 appearances for United this season.

And minutes later, further reports, this time from the Mirror, suggested Roberto Martinez may be considering a £10 million move for the Red Devil reject. Evans has faced a tough season under Louis van Gaal, after a number of injuries and the spitting controversy which landed the struggler with a six game ban.

Having fallen down the pecking order, becoming fourth choice over Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, Evans’ future looks destined to be away from the Theatre of Dreams.

Rumours of the potential signings of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi limit Evans’ opportunities even further, and he may push for the exit door himself. But how did Twitter react to the news that Evans may have finished his United career?

And it appears the Old Trafford faithful have been discontent with the services of Evans for some time. As one of the older defenders in the ranks, he hasn’t lived up to the talents of Rio Ferdinand Nemanja Vidic, and a new replacement would be a refreshing change for Manchester United fans. The disappointment has lingered all season.
