Karim Benzema has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United. The news comes just a few days after United announced they would not be signing Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis.
The Frenchman signed a new deal that lasts until 2019, however, with the departure of manager Carlo Ancelotti his future looks uncertain. Real Madrid signed Benzema from Lyon back in 2009 for £30,000,000. Since his transfer, he has made over 200 appearances for Madrid and won a Champions League medal in 2014.
The 27-year-old has also played for his country over 75 times, scoring almost 25 goals in the process. He has represented his country at the major international competitions, including the recent World Cups in South Africa and Germany. On top of that, he also took part in the European Champions in 2008 and 2012.
Benzema has featured for the Catalan outfit 46 times this season, scoring 22 and assisting 10. Unfortunately, he has has had his fair amount of injuries this season – which has seen Manchester United’s very own Javier Hernandez take his striker position.
Van Gaal will be looking to invest in his strike force after letting Falcao got back to Monaco. This summer transfer window could also see the likes of Robin van Persie and Hernandez leave the Theatre of Dreams.
If the Dutch manager would like to bring Karim Benzema to Manchester, he would need to fork out an estimated £40 million and fight off the likes of Arsenal for his signature.
