Manchester United are set to make a bid for Dutch international Nigel de Jong this summer, claims the Express.
The AC Milan midfielder is set to ask for a bigger wage packet at the San Siro and is prepared to leave if the club fail to meet his demands. According to Tuttosport, Man United are willing to pay up to £30,000 per week in wages for the 30-year-old if he cannot settle terms with the Italian club.
De Jong played for close neighbours Manchester City, and enjoyed three years at rhe Etihad from 2009-2012 before making the switch to the former European champions. Louis van Gaal will know the Dutch midfielder well from his time as Netherlands manager. The pair worked together at the World Cup 2014, where the Dutchmen finished third.
The former Citizen represented AC Milan 28 times across the season, alongside a single Coppa Italia appearance. He alsoo managed three goals throughout the campaign, but did record a total of 11 yellow cards in Serie A.
Van Gaal has promised his fans that he will recruit a new midfielder during the summer transfer window. However, with Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera linked away with moves to Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively, could de Jong be an ideal replacement for the Red Devils?
