Director David Gill could reject FIFA role

It takes an extraordinary man with extreme sense of principal to turn down an offer the a job at the top table of the FIFA, not only the world’s biggest footballing organisations but one of the world’s richest organisation football or otherwise.

This, however, is exactly what David Gill, the FA vice-president and former Manchester United chief executive, has done. The current director at the Theatre of Dreams may be one of the best and most experienced footballing men in the world, but he has shown that no matter who wants him or how much they are willing to offer him the role has to suit and be acceptable with him.

David Gill has promised to refuse a position on FIFA’s executive committee if Sepp Blatter, the controversial FIFA tyrant, continues in his role of supreme power. He also promised not only would he refuse a job offer but would also never attend another FIFA meeting again, even as an FA representative.

The former United man revealed his plan as he addressed a UEFA meeting of associated European nations that, “Given what’s happened, as head of that organisation, you have to resign. I can categorically state that I will never attend another meeting while Blatter remains in charge. This is about the game, not individuals.”

He then went on to launch an extremely scathing attack on how FIFA has been run in recent years, as well as the attitude of Mr Blatter. “For Sepp Blatter not to resign after what’s happened, is indicative of what’s happened at FIFA,” he added. “For an organisation to go on as normal, to have a party, a congress, a clap and a cheer, slap each other on the back, that struck me as showing how futile it is.”

Gill’s word can be trusted, as this is a man who spent 10 years as chief executive of United working hand in hand with Sir Alex Ferguson – winning countless trophies and making an extremely large number of brilliant background decisions. Gill has a proven record when running a successful organisation and just maybe Mr Blatter and his associates may be better served taking Gill’s advice rather than ignoring the fact that anything is happening.
