Recent reports have quoted the newest addition to the Manchester side as saying he defied United’s orders and carried on playing for PSV Eindhoven even after both clubs had confirmed the agreement was in place for the Dutchman to leave.
But who do you blame for this, Memphis Depay himself or PSV’s management? Also, should United even be doing these kind of things?
It certainly wasn’t PSV’s coaching staff who forced him to play. It would be a stupid risk for them. They would lose the transfer money, £25 million which a club such as PSV couldn’t possibly afford to lose. If they had been responsible for Depay losing the transfer of his dreams, not only would they have lost the money but also have had to put up with an unhappy and possibly disruptive player until January at least.
It was as it turns out Depay’s decision. He knew it was a risk, could ruin his future, yet still he valued the respect of the fans and becoming the top scorer in the Eredivisie and helping PSV to their highest points total in their history. No matter how much you can say it was a stupid decision and an unnecessary risk, you simply have to admit loyalty like that, especially from a youngster.
On a more positive note however, fans of The Red Devils will be hoping he shows the fans inside Old Trafford the respect and loyalty, he currently shows the PSV faithful. If he does he will be an absolute hit with not only United fans but possibly every fan in the league.
