Where could Robin van Persie end up this summer?

Where could Robin van Persie end up this summer?

The Flying Dutchman has had his Manchester United future in doubt for a long time now. Starting only three games in the last three months of the season and failing to put in consistent performances, it is rumoured that his time in Manchester is over.

Robin van Persie certainly won’t have a shortage of suitors if he does choose to leave United with a whole host of teams ready to take him on board, due to his prowess and heaps of experience at the highest level.

The most recent link comes from Italian newspaper Il Messaggero who claim that Robin van Persie is simply a step away from completing a move to Lazio. The newspaper states that “Robin van Persie is a dream of [Lazio president] Claudio Lotito” and with Lazio’s possible return Champions League, pending their qualification, they claim Lazio want an efficient striker who has the experience of the highest level, which van Persie certainly does.

The newspaper article followed a tweet from ITV Sports Presenter Matt Smith, who tweeted: “Reliably informed RVP will leave @ManUtd this summer”. With Smith suggesting the striker is heading to the Turkish leagues, with Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray all possibilities, it does suggest an increasing sense that van Persie won’t be a Manchester United player next season.

On the other hand, Il Messaggero go into quite accurate details about Lazio’s pursual of the striker. They claim United are treating him with a value of £15 million, stating that their new kit deal worth £750 million, means that they do not have “any particular problems with money”.

“Lazio are willing to guarantee a four-year contract of about £4 million a season” the newspaper said. “However, a variety of bonuses: appearances, goals, team results and a rise based on the achievements of the club in the league and in Europe will also be included.”

For Lazio, the coup of van Persie would be more than just a signing for the club, put also for investors who would see this as a sign of Lazio’s ambition. A partnership of Klose and van Persie, whilst no longer young, they can still be deadly and will certainly appeal to investors and fans.

Finally, the newspaper also states that Lotito is following the transfer up in person and via daily negotiation. With all the rumours about van Persie’s future, Il Messaggero does seem to have the most reliable article so far and Lazio could certainly be the future club of the Dutch striker.
