Harry Kane’s Role Model

Harry Kane’s Role Model

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane has revealed that Manchester United legend David Beckham was his role model whilst growing up. The PFA’s Young Player of the Year, who is currently on international duty with England’s Under-21’s at the European Championships, has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford this summer.

“He was a big role model of mine growing up, we’re from the same area”, as both were born in the Greater London area. David Beckham was even on Tottenham’s books for a short spell, as he attended their school of excellence, before joining United’s youth academy.

Kane added: “He’s always got time for people and fans, and he’s obviously doing very well off the pitch as well. He’s a great professional and looking at players like him can only make you a better person and a better player.”

“I met him when I was in year seven. Because he was in the same secondary school as me we got to launch the David Beckham Academy at the O2.”

“I got his autograph and then he came and trained at Spurs under Harry Redknapp for a couple of months, so I talked to him a bit then. He was a very down to earth and a top player”

Harry Kane has admitted that he’s flattered by interest from other clubs, but has made no indication that he wants to leave Spurs. “I’ve always wanted to be a player at a top club, starting week in, week out in the Premier League, playing against the big teams, playing in a cup final as we did this year, and playing for my country.”

United’s striking options may become limited, as van Persie’s and Chicharito’s future at the club are in doubt, whilst Falcao’s loan was unsuccessful and is on the verge to sign for Chelsea. This would leave club-captain Wayne Rooney as the only first-team striker, with James Wilson as backup.
