United bid for Ramos – updated

LATEST: Sky Sports News say Manchester United have bid £26.8 million pounds for Sergio Ramos. Graham Hunter of Sky Sports informs that Ramos has told Madrid he wants to make the switch to Old Trafford – his mind is set on the move and he wants Madrid to accept a bid.

Real Madrid have rejected Manchester United’s £32 million offer for defender Sergio Ramos, according John Percy of the Telegraph.

United have been heavily linked in recent days with Ramos and have opened negotiations with Real Madrid. Although their initial bid has been rejected, the club are confident that they can land the Spanish international in what would be a truly sensational swoop.

It has been well documented that Louis van Gaal wants to add a top class central defender to his squad ahead of next season. Initially Mats Hummels appeared to be his main target but with the German set to remain at Borussia Dortmund, Sergio Ramos has become the man at the top of Manchester United’s wish list.

The pursuit of the 29-year-old could be complicated by Real Madrid’s attempts to land David De Gea. United have reportedly told Madrid that they will have to pay a world record fee for a goalkeeper to land De Gea but that may well be negotiable if Ramos was made available for transfer.

Ramos is rumoured to be open to swapping Madrid for Manchester, bringing to an end an association with Real that has lasted almost a decade, having become disillusioned at the club during contract talks. He signed from Sevilla in 2005 and has made 445 appearances for Los Blancos being a part of their 2014 ‘La Decima’ success. Ramos has also enjoyed remarkable success with the Spanish national side, winning a World Cup and two European Championships.

He would certainly be a remarkable capture for Manchester United and the genuine potential in the move becoming a reality will excite the supporters. Watch this space.
