Besiktas have confirmed that they are readying an offer for Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.
Speaking to HaberTürk, board member Yalcin Kaya Yilmaz said that the Turkish club would be making an offer imminently.
“If the conditions are right and if he also wants to come we are willing to make an offer even if it would push us to the limit financially.”
Yilmaz also said that season tickets and merchandise sales would help the club recoup the money used to purchase the 31-year old Dutch international. “He would really get the crowd going at the Arena and sales from season tickets and merchandise alone would be able to make back our investment.”
Besiktas are currently building a new 41,093-seater stadium on the site of their old ground, and they are hoping to open the stadium by the end of the year with a big game against a renowned side as well as with a marquee signing. van Persie would fit the bill.
van Persie has also been linked with moves to Besiktas’ rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray over the past few weeks, but it is the first time that any of these clubs have officially said that they would be making an offer.
In his three seasons at Old Trafford so far, van Persie has made 105 appearances in total for United, scoring 57 goals. Despite being a peripheral figure at the club at times last season, van Persie could still play a pivotal role for the Reds and it would be a sad sight to see him leave the club.
