Thomas Müller has called it “an honour”to being linked with a move to Manchester United, in an interview with German magazine SportBild.
The 25-year old German international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since Louis van Gaal took over the reins, along with team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger, and any move would reunite Müller with the man who gave him a first team debut at Bayern Munich.
In the interview, conducted by Christian Falk, Müller sounded pleased to be linked with the Reds. “When a request comes, you deal with it automatically. A request from a big club is an honour and a reward that your performance is good.”
However, he did temper expectations that a move would be forthcoming, also saying: “But I feel well at Bayern, and my contract runs until 2019. There is nothing more to say on these speculations.”
Müller’s comments come after a season where there had been rumours of a rift between him and Bayern manager Pep Guardiola. The pair had a touchline bust-up after Guardiola substituted Müller during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and it seemed possible that Müller might seek an exit from the Allianz Arena.
But Guardiola has pushed through a rocky period in Munich to guide Bayern to the Bundesliga title, and although Müller would be a great addition for United, being able to play anywhere in attacking midfield and even up front, it seems that any move will be unlikely for the moment.
