Nani lands in Turkey

Manchester United winger Luis Nani has landed in Turkey to complete his much-anticipated transfer to Super Lig giants Fenerbache

Having been sent on loan to Sporting Lisbon for the duration of 2014/15 by Louis van Gaal, the Portuguese trickster may have hoped that his exploits back at his boyhood club may have earned him a chance to work his way back into the setup at Old Trafford.

He made 36 appearances for Sporting, none of which came from the bench, scoring 11 goals and assisting two – including this stunning effort, which reduced him to tears [skip to 0:55]:

He has made 147 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, scoring 25 goals in these. He is seen as a similar player to Juan Roman Riquelme and Ricardo Quaresma in that they have alike styles of play but none of the trio fulfilled their  massive potential, despite their glaringly obvious talents. Quaresma is currently at Porto, somewhat rejuvenated having taken time out of the very top of European football with two years at Besiktas

Perhaps Nani is hoping that moving away from the spotlight that is the harsh British media, he can flourish as Quaresma did in Turkey. Here is what the former said to FBTV upon his arrival there on Sunday:

“At the moment that I am here, I am very happy as I see an opportunity to put myself on show.”

He is also relishing the chance to join up with compatriots Bruno Alves and Raul Meireles at Fenerbahce:

“It will be a nice feeling to be playing with my friends from the national team”

Nani has made 86 appearances for Portugal since making his debut in 2006 – most of these coming in his 8 years with Manchester United. He will be missed by many at Old Trafford, where bad luck was more his downfall than his own efforts.
