Nani had a penchant for the spectacular and certainly produced some magical moments during his spell at Old Trafford. Here we take a look at five of his best strikes in a Manchester United shirt.
5. vs Tottenham Hotspur (August 2007)
This goal announced the Portuguese winger to the Old Trafford faithful. Scoring had been a problem in the opening matches of the 2007/08 season and Sir Alex’s team were struggling to break down a resilient Tottenham Hotspur side. Step forward Nani, who crashed a powerful strike into the far corner to hand United the lead.
4. vs Bayern Munich (April 2010)
Nani’s impudent flick to put United 2-0 up in this Champions League quarter final clash displayed what a wonderful and unique talent he is. This clever effort to turn in Antonio Valencia’s cross put United in control of the tie. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the team crashed out on away goals.
3. vs Middlesbrough (October 2007)
This is a strike straight out of the top drawer from the winger. It was incredible attempt and again showed us what Nani was capable of on his day. Certainly worthy of his trademark celebration.
2. vs Chelsea (September 2011)
Another stupendous finish from Nani, during his peak run of form for United- between 2010 and 2012 he was virtually unplayable- that helped put Chelsea to the sword at Old Trafford. It was goal befitting the exciting cavalier approach that United adopted during the early part of the 2011/12 season.
1. vs Arsenal (January 2010)
As far as individual efforts go, particularly ones of such skill and audacity, there have been few more dazzling than Nani’s effort at the Emirates Stadium. The skill to leave two Arsenal players stranded defies description, outrageous doesn’t quite do it the justice it deserves. A wonderful piece of individual play, which typified the courage and ability to do things that others can’t, that Nani possessed in abundance.
