Hummels to Stay at Dortmund

Hummels to Stay at Dortmund

Mats Hummels has said to that he was honoured to be linked with a big money move to Manchester United but will rebuff their attempts to sign him and stay in Germany, according to reports in the Telegraph.

Hummels was rumoured to be one of United’s top transfer targets as Louis van Gaal looked to improve his central defensive options. The German international centre back was reported to be valued at £35 million by his club Borussia Dortmund.

The 26-year-old has confessed to be thrilled by the links to United.  “When the big clubs, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, is interested in you, it’s an honour and it’s a kind of an acceptance of what you play – so it’s a good thing,” he told reporters during Dortmund’s pre-season tour of Asia.

However the chances of him joining the Red Devils were quickly dashed: “There’s always been rumours for the last years about almost every one of our players but I decided not to make a move this year and that’s the only thing I can say about that”.

So Hummels has followed Ilkay Gundogan in rejecting United’s advances and deciding to remain at Dortmund. A deal had apparently been agreed for the German midfielder last month, but he eventually decided to stay in Germany.

Mats Hummels ruling out a move to United will surely increase speculation that United will try and sign Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi this summer.
