Jonny Evans has emerged as a surprise transfer target for rivals Arsenal, according to reports in the Independent.
The 27-year-old defender, who has spent his entire career at United, is expected to depart Old Trafford this summer as he isn’t considered a part of Louis van Gaal’s long term plans.
Evans made just 15 appearances in 2014/15 and has fallen behind Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in the central defensive pecking order. With Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi rumoured targets, Evans’ future at United looks bleak.
Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing the Northern Ireland international and would look to add him to their current options. The Gunners’ currently have Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to choose from.
West Bromwich Albion are interested in Evans with Tony Pulis being an admirer of the defender. A move to the Hawthorns would see Evans reunited with former United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
He has played 196 times for United since making his debut in 2007 and the academy graduate has won 31 caps for Northern Ireland.
