Calcio Mercatoweb have reported that Marouane Fellaini has become a “top priority signing” for AC Milan. Their boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has apparently opened talks with United for the 27-year-old, where a bid in the region of £10 million pounds could be accepted by Manchester United, according to the Italian publication.
Milan have already signed central-midfielder Andrea Bertolacci from Genoa in a £14 million deal and could invest further with the Belgian international. This follows Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari bothAll of ours being released from the Rossoneri, as Mihajlovic looks regain the club’s former European Giant status.
United have already bolstered their central-midfield options this summer, with the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin. Along with Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Daley Blind, Louis van Gaal would still have plenty of options, if Fellaini were to make the switch to Italy, but he offers something different to the rest of his teammates.
Fellaini became one of United’s key players last season, as at times opponents couldn’t handle his physicality and aerial threat. United often mixed up their style of play, as United were able to go direct when needed when Fellaini was included in the team, or to find feet when it came to Spaniards Juan Mata and Herrera.
If United were to sell Fellaini at the price of £10 million, they would be taking a £17.5 million loss on a player who performed well last season, and will only help United if he continues that same vein of form this season. It would come as a very big surprise if we do see the back of Marouane Fellaini this summer, especially for the reported transfer fee.
