United Accept That De Gea Will Leave Club- but When?

Manchester United are prepared to let David De Gea leave for nothing next summer if they cannot come to an agreement with Real Madrid regarding the transfer of Sergio Ramos, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Real Madrid have insisted that Ramos is not for sale and United are also adamant that De Gea won’t leave the club unless it is on their terms. The lack of movement from either party could see any deal postponed until next year.

Real’s signing of Kiko Casilla from Espanyol, following the sale of Iker Casillas to Porto last week, has increased the suggestion that the Spanish giants are prepared to wait until De Gea’s contract expires next summer, before making their move.

United reportedly demanded a world-record fee for a goalkeeper from Madrid to sign De Gea but they also want the opportunity to sign Sergio Ramos. Louis van Gaal has made the 29-year-old defender a top transfer target as he looks to build a team capable of winning the title next season.

Although the club have accepted that De Gea will leave, be it this year or 2016, they are determined not be bullied by the Spanish giants and are happy that the 24-year-old will be incredibly professional should he remain in Manchester for another year. Keeping him until next summer will also provide United with ample time to find a successor to the Spanish international.

Since he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011, De Gea has amassed 175 appearances for Manchester United and was part of the side that won the Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season.
