Ajax Can’t Stop Cillessen Joining United

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has admitted that the club would be powerless to stop Jasper Cillessen leaving for Manchester United, according to reports from Sky Sports News HQ.

Netherlands international Cillessen has been made the bookmaker’s favourite to replace Madrid-bound David De Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move away and Manchester United have accepted that he will depart either this summer or the next.

Cillessen is already familiar to Louis van Gaal having been the United manager’s first choice goalkeeper at the 2014 World Cup. His current boss, former Dutch international Frank De Boer, believes that it would be difficult to prevent him leaving for Manchester.

“For us it would be a disaster if that’s going to happen because it’s already very difficult to find a good goalkeeper, especially if you have the best goalkeeper in Holland,” he told reporters.

“We want to keep him and he wants to stay, but if Manchester United come with a bag of money it can be difficult.

“We have to wait but the transfer period still has a long way to go.”

Whilst the 26-year-old isn’t reading too much into the rumours surrounding his future, he would relish the opportunity to test himself at United.

“I have only heard the rumours so I don’t worry about it until I hear something from my agent. If I don’t hear something from my agent, I enjoy playing at Ajax. I ask my agent, who also is Memphis Depay’s, and he says we don’t know anything.”

“Of course, it’s a great club, Manchester United, but I cannot do anything with rumours. It would be a great step.”

Cillessen has made 93 appearances for Ajax since he joined the club from NEC in 2011 and has won 21 caps for Netherlands following his début in 2013.
