Pearson and Rothwell Both Join Barnsley on Loan

Manchester United youngsters Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have both signed temporary deals with League One side Barnsley. The pair have joined on loan until January 2016.

The two players failed to make Louis van Gaal’s USA tour squad and have opted to continue their footballing education elsewhere. The opportunity to ply their trade in English football’s third tier at Barnsley has arisen, Pearson returning for a second spell having spent four months at Oakwell last season.

Pearson made 21 appearances at Barnsley and earned rave reviews during his time there. Rothwell also spent time away from Old Trafford last year, enduring a disappointing time at Blackpool, where he started just once.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Rothwell told the Barnsley club website.

“I’ve heard a lot about the place from Ben. He couldn’t speak highly enough of his time here and I just can’t wait to get going.

“I had no hesitations about coming here after speaking with Lee Johnson. The Club almost made the Play-Offs with Ben here last season so, hopefully, we can go one better this time.”

Both players will be hoping that their loan spells can provide a platform for a future career in the United first team. We will be keeping a close eye on their progress.
