San Jose Earthquakes are giving away soon-to-be out of date Manchester United shirts to anyone who buys two tickets to their friendly with Louis van Gaal’s side.
Tomorrow’s match at the 18,000 capacity Avaya Stadium has not yet sold out. In a bid to sell the remaining tickets any Earthquakes fan that buys a ticket will be given a free United shirt.
However, the shirt they’re offering out will soon be out of date, with the club set to unveil their new Adidas-made kit after their deal with Nike expires at the end of this month.
The match against San Jose was moved from the 60,000 capacity California Memorial Stadium 45 miles away in Berkeley in late June, with the decision made to ease travel time for van Gaal’s team.
Cal Athletics, who use the stadium for gridiron games, said at the time: “Our campus representatives were informed by our promotional partner, Relevent Sports, that the Manchester United vs. San Jose Earthquakes match scheduled for July 21 at California Memorial Stadium, has been relocated to Avaya Stadium in San Jose.
San Jose fans did not seem impressed by the offer of a free jersey for the opponents, with many asking why the home side wanted to make the stadium more red.
