Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is hopeful that goalkeeper David de Gea can play in United’s next pre-season fixture against Barcelona.
De Gea missed the 1-0 win against Club America last week and Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory against San Jose Earthquakes.
Anders Lindegaard was also ruled out of the San Jose game, meaning Sam Johnstone played the full 90 minutes. Louis van Gaal is optimistic that de Gea can play against Barcelona but didn’t offer any guarantees.
De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the Spaniard hasn’t commented on the speculation.
“I have a good hope that he can play against Barcelona but he was still injured (for the San Jose game),” van Gaal said.
Manchester United are reportedly refusing to sell David de Gea to Madrid unless they receive Sergio Ramos in return. Whatever happens, both de Gea and van Gaal will want the situation to wrap up quickly so they can both focus on the upcoming season.
So far on tour, United have conceded twice without David de Gea in goal – once in each game – so will be hoping that their number one shotstopper, who does at the moment seem as though he will see out his contract with United, will be fit to play against the current European champions.
In 2015, Barcelona won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, whilst Real Madrid went trophyless for yet another season – something they do too often for such a huge, wealthy club.
Manchester United take on Barcelona at 21:00 BST on Saturday – keep your eyes peeled for our live blog from 8pm!
