Angel di Maria punished for absence

Manchester United’s superstar midfielder Angel di Maria has been fined for his lack of presence at the club’s pre-season tour of America.

The Copa America star was meant to report to the United States along with Marcos Rojo and Javier Hernandez – but the Mexican striker nicknamed ‘Little Pea’ was the only one of the trio to materialise. It has since been revealed that Rojo, who was also in Argentina’s Copa America side, was refused access to the USA with passport and visa difficulties, which Louis van Gaal is not worried about as he has an explanation.

However, di Maria has literally been AWOL since then, and van Gaal has admitted on one occasion that he has no idea of the whereabouts of the supposedly wantaway star.

Angel, who was brought to Old Trafford from Real Madrid for a club record fee last summer, has been fined £360,000 from his wages, according to Goal.

It is thought that he is close to securing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, who United lost 2-0 to in their final International Champions Cup game this week. PSG manager Laurent Blanc, who used to play for United, has suggested that he is confident of a deal for di Maria being completed this summer.

The midfielder has insisted on a few occasions this summer that he is determined to stay in Manchester and become and Old Trafford legend by helping the club to trophies and restoring their proud tradition of being serial winners – he even said upon his arrival last summer that Manchester United are the only club he would have left Real Madrid for.

The situation with the Argentine is very foggy at the moment as even the management know not where he is, but we will bring you the latest updates right here as and when they happen.
