United squad for CL play-off confirmed

Manchester United’s squad has been confirmed ahead of their Champions League play-off against Club Brugge.

There are no major surprises with the squad submitted to UEFA, save for the inclusion of Phil Jones, who had been expected to miss both legs of the play-off after being diagnosed with mild thrombosis.

David de Gea has also been selected by Louis van Gaal, despite the manager stating that the Spaniard would not be playing for the Reds until the end of the transfer window due to his mind being swayed by interest from Real Madrid. Out of favour Anders Lindegaard has also been selected, but he is most definitely an emergency option in case a major goalkeeping injury crisis occurs.

All five new signings are in the squad, with Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Memphis Depay all expected to make their maiden European appearances for the Reds.

United face the Belgian side for the first time in a competitive fixture in this tie, with the first leg taking place at Old Trafford on August 18th, before the return leg in Brugge a week later on August 26th.

Squad: David de Gea, Anders Lindegaard, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair, Matteo Darmian, Tyler Blackett, Adnan Januzaj, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, James Wilson
