In an astonishing turn of events, it appears that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will not be moving to Real Madrid this summer.
The Spanish international goalkeeper was all set to join Los Blancos but the deal looks to have fallen through in what appears to have been either a malicious act of revenge by Ed Woodward, or a sloppy miscommunication between the two clubs; as the documents required did not reach La Liga’s offices for confirmation before the 23:00 BST Spanish transfer window deadline.
The deal was to be for £15 million plus Keylor Navas of Real Madrid – who agreed to move to Old Trafford to make way for de Gea, but it now appears that both goalkeepers will remain at their current clubs, with a deadline extension never having been awarded in a La Liga transfer window.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News, sports journalist Guillem Balague said that the situation is similar to that of Fabio Coentrao’s in 2012 – when the player was minutes away from a move from Madrid to United, but again, the documentation did not reach La Liga on time.
